RESUMEN

Channel-forming discharge (Dcf) is an important parameter in river management and reservoir flood regulation. Applying the methods for calculating Dcf to reaches downstream reservoirs characterized by drastic changes in water and sediment conditions and long-term scouring status is difficult. Based on the riverbed-shaping principle of sediment-laden water flow, while simultaneously considering the active action of water flow and response of the riverbed, this study proposes a new method for calculating Dcf by identifying the extreme value of the suspended sediment-carrying capacity index. The application of this method to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River showed that after the impoundment of the Three Gorges Reservoir, Dcf in this section was reduced by an amplitude between 2500 and 4700 m3/s. The results can be used to guide the operation of the Three Gorges Reservoir and the management of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, thus providing reference for other river channels downstream of the reservoir.

RESUMEN

Degenerative musculoskeletal diseases are structural and functional failures of the musculoskeletal system, including osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), and sarcopenia. As the global population ages, degenerative musculoskeletal diseases are becoming more prevalent. However, the pathogenesis of degenerative musculoskeletal diseases is not fully understood. Previous studies have revealed that endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is a stress response that occurs when impairment of the protein folding capacity of the ER leads to the accumulation of misfolded or unfolded proteins in the ER, contributing to degenerative musculoskeletal diseases. By affecting cartilage degeneration, synovitis, meniscal lesion, subchondral bone remodeling of osteoarthritis, bone remodeling and angiogenesis of osteoporosis, nucleus pulposus degeneration, annulus fibrosus rupture, cartilaginous endplate degeneration of IVDD, and sarcopenia, ER stress is involved in the pathogenesis of degenerative musculoskeletal diseases. Preclinical studies have found that regulation of ER stress can delay the progression of multiple degenerative musculoskeletal diseases. These pilot studies provide foundations for further evaluation of the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of ER stress modulators in the treatment of musculoskeletal degenerative diseases in clinical trials. In this review, we have integrated up-to-date research findings of ER stress into the pathogenesis of degenerative musculoskeletal diseases. In a future perspective, we have also discussed possible directions of ER stress in the investigation of degenerative musculoskeletal disease, potential therapeutic strategies for degenerative musculoskeletal diseases using ER stress modulators, as well as underlying challenges and obstacles in bench-to-beside research.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks as the third most common cancer and is second in terms of mortality worldwide. Circular RNAs are involved in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors by functioning either as oncogenes or tumor suppressors. METHOD: This study investigated the functions of hsa_circ_0001278 in CRC. We analyzed the expression of hsa_circ_0001278 in CRC tissues and adjacent normal tissues. In order to understand the roles of hsa_circ_0001278 in CRC in terms of cellular biological behavior, in vitro experiments were conducted. A mechanistic study was designed to investigate the regulatory effect of hsa_circ_0001278 on CRC. RESULTS: Hsa_circ_0001278 was found to be significantly upregulated in CRC specimens. The functional analysis indicated that hsa_circ_0001278 promotes aggressive phenotypes of CRC cells. Further mechanistic studies revealed that hsa_circ_0001278 sponges miR-338-5p to regulate angiomotin-like 1 (AMOTL1), thereby facilitating CRC progression. CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate that hsa_circ_0001278 promotes malignant behaviors in CRC cells by sponging miR-338-5p to regulate AMOTL1 expression. This suggests that hsa_circ_0001278 may serve as a novel target for CRC treatment.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To investigate the regulation effect of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and interleukin-4 (IL-4) in the serum of patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) on immune response. METHODS: A total of 83 OLP patients in Wangfujing Branch of Beijing Stomatological Hospital, Capital Medical University from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected as the experimental group, and another 61 healthy volunteers who came to the hospital during the same period were included as the control group. The expression levels of IFN-γ and IL-4 in the serum and the expression of immune function indexes of the two groups were compared. The relationship between the expression levels of IFN-γ, IL-4 and immune function indicators in the experimental group was analyzed. SPSS 22.0 software package was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: The levels of IFN-γ and IL-4 in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the levels of IFN-γ between patients with reticulated OLP and erosive OLP in the experimental group (P>0.05). The level of IL-4 in patients with erosive OLP in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in patients with reticulated OLP(P<0.05). The levels of CD3+, CD4, CD16++CD56+ and CD4+/CD8+ in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05), the levels of CD8+ and CD19+ in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). The levels of IgG, IgM and CH50 in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05), and the levels of IgA, C3 and C4 in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the level of IFN-γ in the experimental group was negatively correlated with CD16++CD56+ and CD4+/CD8+ (P<0.05), the level of IL-4 in the experimental group was negatively correlated with CD16++CD56+ and CD4+/CD8+(P<0.05), and the level of IL-4 in the experimental group was positively correlated with IgG (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Serum IFN-γ and IL-4 in OLP patients are abnormally high, and IL-4 expression is significantly higher in erosive OLP patients. The cellular and humoral immune functions of OLP patients are disordered and related to the regulation of CD16++CD56+, CD4+/CD8+, and IgG immune responses.

RESUMEN

Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based heterostructures are attractive because they can provide versatile platforms for various applications but are limited by complex liquid epitaxial growth methods. Here, we employ photolithography to fabricate and control MOF-based heterostructured crystals via [4 + 4] photocycloaddition. A layered dysprosium-dianthracene framework, [Dy(NO3)3(depma2)1.5]·(depma2)0.5 (2) [depma2 = pre-photodimerized 9-diethylphosphonomethylanthracene (depma)] underwent a single-crystal-to-single-crystal transition at 140 °C to form [Dy(NO3)3(depma)(depma2)]·(depma2)0.5 (3). The dissociated anthracene moieties are face-to-face π-π interacted allowing a reversible photocycloaddition between 2 and 3. This structural transformation causes a luminescence switch between blue and yellow-green and thus can be used to fabricate erasable 2 + 3 heterostructured crystals for rewritable photonic barcodes. The internal strain at the heterostructure interface leads to photobending and straightening of the crystal, a photomechanical response that is fast, reversible and durable, even operating at 140 °C, making it promising for photoactuation. This work may inspire the development of intelligent MOF-based heterostructures for photonic applications.

RESUMEN

Photosensitive lanthanide-based single-molecule magnets (Ln-SMM) are very attractive for their potential applications in information storage, switching, and sensors. However, the light-driven structural transformation in Ln-SMMs hardly changes the coordination number of the lanthanide ion. Herein, for the first time it is reported that X-ray (λ=0.71073 Å) irradiation can break the coordination bond of Dy-OH2 in the three-dimensional (3D) metal-organic framework Dy2 (amp2 H2 )3 (H2 O)6 ⋅ 4H2 O (MDAF-5), in which the {Dy2 (OPO)2 } dimers are cross-linked by dianthracene-phosphonate ligands. The structural transformation proceeds in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SC-SC) fashion, forming the new phase Dy2 (amp2 H2 )3 (H2 O)4 ⋅ 4H2 O (MDAF-5-X). The phase transition is accompanied by a significant change in magnetic properties due to the alteration in coordination geometry of the DyIII ion from a distorted pentagonal bipyramid in MDAF-5 to a distorted octahedron in MDAF-5-X.

RESUMEN

The aim of this study was to elucidate the biological functions of the motility regulatory protein CheZ in the probiotic strain Escherichia coli Nissle 1917. A cheZ gene deletion strain Nissle 1917ΔcheZ was constructed using the CRISPR/Cas9 two-plasmid system, and the corresponding complemented strain Nissle 1917ΔcheZ/pBR322-cheZ was established. Combined studies of growth kinetics testing, motility assays, swarming motility assays, and bacterial adherence assays were performed to study the motility regulatory protein CheZ-mediated functions in the prototype Nissle 1917 strain, its isogenic cheZ mutant, and the corresponding complemented strain. The growth rate of the cheZ mutant strain was lower than that of the wild-type strain in the exponential growth phase. The motility of the cheZ mutant strain was significantly lower than that of the wild-type strain. And the adhesion ability of ΔcheZ mutant to the Caco-2 cells was significantly lower than that of the wild-type strain and complemented strain. In conclusion, the results presented in our study suggested that the deletion of the cheZ gene in E. coli Nissle 1917 led to a significant reduction of its swimming ability and a subsequent marked decrease of adhesion to the Caco-2 cells.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the effects and clinical significance of NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activated by interleukin (IL)-17A in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). Methods: Patients underwent nasal endoscopic surgery in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from January 2020 to December 2021 were collected, including 28 CRSwNP (including 19 males and 9 females, aged 19 to 67 years), 22 chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps (CRSsNP) and 22 controls. qRT-PCR was used to detect the expressions of IL-17A, NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 in the three groups, and their correlations were analyzed. The positions of IL-17A, NLRP3 and IL-18 in nasal polys were analyzed by immunofluorescence. Western Blotting and ELISA were employed to detect the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 in the human nasal epithelial cells after using IL-17A stimulation or IL-17A receptor inhibitor. Immunofluorescence was used to observe the NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 protein expression after IL-17A stimulating human nasal epithelial cells, and after the use of IL-17A receptor inhibitor and NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950. The correlations between NLRP3, IL-1β, IL-18 and CT scores, nasal endoscopic scores, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, and sino-nasal outcome test (SNOT) 22 scores of CRSwNP patients were analyzed. SPSS 20.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: The expressions of IL-17A, NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 in the tissues of CRSwNP patients were significantly higher than those in CRSsNP group(P=0.018,P<0.001,P=0.005, P=0.016) and the control group(all P<0.001). IL-17A was positively correlated with the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18(r ralue was 0.643,0.650,0.629,respectively, all P<0.05). IL-17A, NLRP3, and IL-18 were co-localized in the epithelial propria of polyp tissue. IL-17A stimulated the expressions of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 in human nasal epithelial cells. After the use of IL-17A receptor inhibitor, the expressions of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18 were significantly down-regulated. After the use of NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950, IL-17A was significantly down-regulated to promote the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β, and IL-18. The expressions of NLRP3, IL-1β and IL-18 were positively correlated with CT, nasal endoscopy, VAS, and SNOT22 scores in patients with CRSwNP. Conclusions: IL-17A promotes the release of IL-1β and IL-18 by activating the NLRP3 inflammasome and aggravates the severity of the disease in CRSwNP.

RESUMEN

Polar topologies have received extensive attention due to their exotic configurations and functionalities. Understanding their responsive behaviors to external stimuli, especially thermal excitation, is highly desirable to extend their applications to high temperature, which is still unclear. Here, combining in situ transmission electron microscopy and phase-field simulations, the thermal dynamics of the flux-closure domains were illuminated in PbTiO3/SrTiO3 multilayers. In-depth analyses suggested that the topological transition processes from a/c domains to flux-closure quadrants were influenced by the boundary conditions of PbTiO3 layers. The symmetrical boundary condition stabilized the flux-closure domains at higher temperature than in the asymmetrical case. Furthermore, the reversible thermal responsive behaviors of the flux-closure domains displayed superior thermal stability, which maintained robust up to 450 °C (near the Curie temperature). This work provides new insights into the dynamics of polar topologies under thermal excitation and facilitates their applications as nanoelectronics under extreme conditions.

RESUMEN

Several studies have demonstrated the association of lncRNAs with a variety of cancers. Here, we explored the role of LINC00922 in gastric cancer (GC) using bioinformatics approaches and in vitro experiments. We examined the expression of LINC00922 and the prognosis of GC patients based on data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA). LINC00922-related genes were identified by the Multi Experiment Matrix (MEM) database and The Atlas of Noncoding RNAs in Cancer (TANRIC), followed by Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and protein-protein interaction analysis. The significance of LINC00922 in cell proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and migration was assessed by MTT assay, flow cytometry, Transwell assay and wound-healing assay. The expression of LINC00922 was increased in GC tissues compared with adjacent non-tumor tissues, and increased LINC00922 expression was correlated with poor overall survival and disease-free survival. In addition, 336 overlapping genes were identified by the MEM database and TANRIC and found to be involved in GC-related biological processes, such as cell adhesion and migration, as well as TGF-ß signaling. In the protein-protein interaction network, hub genes, such as FSTL3 and LAMC1, were identified. LINC00922 overexpression significantly promoted cell proliferation and invasion in vitro, whereas LINC00922 knockdown exerted opposite effects. In summary, our findings indicate that LINC00922 is overexpressed in GC tissues, suggesting that it might play a role in the development and progression of GC, and thus, it might serve as a prognostic indicator of GC.

RESUMEN

Layered heterometallic 5f-3d uranyl phosphonates can exhibit unique luminescent and/or magnetic properties, but the fabrication and properties of their 2D counterparts have not been investigated. Herein we report three heterobimetallic uranyl phosphonates, namely, [(UO2 )3 M(2-pmbH)4 (H2 O)4 ] ⋅ 2H2 O [MU, M=Co(II), CoU; Mn(II), MnU; Zn(II), ZnU; 2-pmbH3 =2-(phosphonomethyl)benzoic acid]. They are isostructural and display two-dimensional layered structures where the M(II) centers are encapsulated inside the windows generated by the diamagnetic uranyl phosphonate layer. Each M(II) has an octahedral geometry filled with four water molecules in the equatorial positions and two phosphonate oxygen atoms in the axial positions. The uranium atoms adopt UO7 pentagonal bipyramidal and UO6 square bipyramidal geometries. The lattice and coordination water molecules can be released by thermal treatment and reabsorbed in a reversible manner, accompanied with changes of magnetic dynamics. Interestingly, the bulk samples of MU can be exfoliated in acetone via freezing and thawing processes forming nanosheets with single-layer or two-layer thickness (MU-ns). Magnetic studies revealed that the CoU and MnU systems exhibited field-induced slow magnetization relaxation at low temperature. Compared with crystalline CoU, the magnetic relaxation of the CoU-ns aggregates is significantly accelerated. Moreover, photoluminescence measured at 77 K showed slight red-shift of the five characteristic uranyl emission bands for ZnU-ns in comparison with those of the crystalline ZnU. This work gives the first examples of 2D materials based on 5f-3d heterometallic uranyl phosphonates and illustrates the impact of dimension reduction on their magnetic/optical properties.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Pyroptosis is closely related to inflammation. However, the molecular mechanisms and pathologic contributions of pyroptotic epithelial cell are not yet fully understood. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore the function and molecular mechanisms of IL-17A on human nasal epithelial cell (hNEC) pyroptosis. METHODS: The expression of pyroptosis-related biomarkers and IL-17A was assessed in sinonasal mucosa from control individuals, patients with chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps, and patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) by using quantitative RT-PCR. Their localization was analyzed via immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence. The ultrastructural characteristics of IL-17A-induced pyroptosis in hNECs were visualized by using electron microscopy. IL-17A functional assays were performed on hNECs and airway epithelial cell lines. Cytokine levels were quantified via ELISA. The signaling pathways involved in IL-17A-induced pyroptosis were studied via unbiased RNA sequencing and Western blotting. RESULTS: The expression of IL-17A and the pyroptotic biomarkers NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), caspase-1, gasdermin D, and IL-1ß was increased in nasal mucosa from patients with CRSwNP compared with in those with chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps and the control subjects. IL-17A was positively correlated and colocalized with the pyroptotic biomarkers. IL-17A treatment induced pyroptosis in the hNECs and cell lines analyzed, primarily through the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)-NLRP3/caspase-1 signaling pathway, and increased IL-1ß and IL-18 secretion in hNECs. Moreover, IL-17A-induced pyroptosis contributed to steroid resistance by affecting glucocorticoid receptor-α and glucocorticoid receptor-ß expression, and the inhibition of pyroptotic proteins partially abolished IL-17A-induced steroid resistance in hNECs. CONCLUSION: Elevated IL-17A level promotes pyroptosis in hNECs through the ERK-NLRP3/caspase-1 signaling pathway and contributes to glucocorticoid resistance by affecting glucocorticoid receptor homeostasis in patients with CRSwNP.

RESUMEN

Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an essential method for Acute exacerbation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) recovery. We perform a meta-analysis to compare early PR with usual care. A literature search was performed through these databases: PubMed, MEDLINE database, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Embase from inception to July 2021. Eligible trials were clinical randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of early PR and usual care in AECOPD patients. The primary endpoint of this meta-analysis was FEV1% predicted, 6-min walk test (6MWD), modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) and George Respiratory Questionnaire-total (SGRQ-total). The secondary outcomes were borg dyspnea score, short-form 36 health survey questionnaire physical (SF-36 physical) and SF-36 mental. We included 13 RCTs with a total of 866 patients. There were no significant effects of the PR group on measures of FEV1% predicted (MD = 0.50, 95%CI -1.43 to 2.44, Z = 0.51, p = 0.61), borg dyspnea score (MD = -0.88, 95%CI -1.89 to 0.13, Z = 1.71, p = 0.09) and SF-36 mental (MD = 4.34, 95%CI -1.64 to 10.32, Z = 1.42, p = 0.16) compared with usual care. PR group achieved better 6MWD (MD = 97.58, 95%CI 17.21 to 177.96, Z = 2.38, p = 0.02), mMRC (MD = -0.36, 95%CI -0.52 to -0.21, Z = 4.56, p ˂ 0.00001), SGRQ-total (MD= -9.67, 95%CI -16.23 to -3.11, Z = 2.89, p = 0.004) and SF-36 physical (MD = 4.98, 95%CI 0.60 to 9.35, Z = 2.23, p = 0.03) compared with usual care group. Early PR in AECOPD patients would lead to better 6MWD, mMRC, SGRQ-total and SF-36 physical. But there were no significant effects of the PR group on measures of FEV1% predicted, borg dyspnea score and SF-36 mental.

RESUMEN

Objective: To detect the percentages of CD8+Treg cells in the nasal mucosa and peripheral blood of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) and to explore their correlation with eosinophilic infiltration. Methods: Thirty-three chronic rhinosinusitis with polyp (CRSwNP), 26 chronic rhinosinusitis without polyp (CRSsNP) and 27 control patients who were collected with the nose mucosal tissue and peripheral blood in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from March 2017 to October 2018 were selected, including 59 males and 27 females, aging from 18 to 72 years. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining was used to observe the number of eosinophils in the nasal tissues and to classify the CRS into eosinophilic CRS (ECRS) and non-eosinophilic CRS (Non-ECRS). Flow cytometry was used to detect the percentages of CD4+ and CD8+T cells in lymphocytes of nasal mucosa and peripheral blood. The percentages of CD8+Foxp3+Treg cells, CD8+Foxp3-IL-10+Treg cells, CD8+IFN-γ+T cells (Tc1), CD8+IL-4+T cells (Tc2) and CD8+IL-17A+T cells (Tc17) in lymphocytes of nasal mucosa and peripheral blood were also tested. Besides, the percentages of Foxp3+TGF-β+Treg cells and Foxp3+IL-10+Treg cells in CD8+T cells were determined. All data were represented by M (IQR). GraphPad 7.0 and SPSS 16.0 were used for illustration and statistical analysis. Results: The percentage of CD8+T cells (37.75%(17.35%)) was higher than that of CD4+T cells (4.72%(4.29%)) in nasal mucosa (Z=-5.70, P<0.001), while lower (23.60%(9.33%)) than that of CD4+T cells (44.05% (10.93%)) in peripheral blood (t=9.72, P<0.001). CRSwNP patients possessed the highest Tc2 (1.82% (1.22%)) and Tc17 (1.93% (2.32%)) percentages than CRSsNP (Tc2: 0.84% (0.79%); Tc17: 0.54% (1.04%)) and control (Tc2: 1.09% (0.92%); Tc17: 0.47% (0.51%), both P<0.05) patients. While, CRSwNP patients possessed the lowest CD8+Foxp3+Treg cells percentage (0.10% (0.32%)) than CRSsNP (0.43% (1.45%)) and control (0.48% (0.83%), Z value was -2.24, -2.22, respectively, P value was 0.025, 0.027, respectively). The percentages of Foxp3+TGF-β+Treg cells and Foxp3+IL-10+Treg cells of CD8+T cells in nasal mucosa in CRSwNP were also lower than controls (Z value was 1.46, 0.49, respectively, both P=0.001). Moreover, the percentage of CD8+Foxp3-IL-10+Treg cells of CD8+T cells was decreased in nasal mucosa of CRSwNP patients (0.14% (0.28%)) when compared with that of CRSsNP (0.89% (0.81%), Z=0.61, P=0.03). ECRS patients had the lower percentages of CD8+Foxp3+Treg cells (0.07% (0.44%)) and CD8+Foxp3-IL-10+Treg cells (0.13% (0.21%)) than Non-ECRS patients (CD8+Foxp3+Treg cells: 0.53% (0.75%); CD8+Foxp3-IL-10+Treg cells: 0.29% (0.76%), t value was 2.14, 2.78, respectively, both P<0.05). The percentage of CD8+Foxp3+Treg cells and the ratio of CD8+Foxp3-IL-10+T per CD8+T cells were negatively correlated with the percentage of eosinophils in CRS patients(R2 value was 0.56, 0.78, respectively, both P<0.001). There was no significant difference in the distribution of CD8+Fxop3+Treg cells and CD8+Fxop3-IL-10+Treg cells in peripheral blood among different groups. Conclusion: The percentages of CD8+Treg cells decrease in CRSwNP patients, especially in ECRS patients, which are opposite to that of Tc2 and Tc17, and negatively correlate with the eosinophils percentage. This indicates that the decrease in the ratio of CD8+Treg cell may be associated with the immune-imbalance and eosinophilic infiltration in nasal mucosa of CRS patients.

RESUMEN

Ultrathin nanosheets of luminescent metal-organic frameworks or coordination polymers have been widely used for sensing ions, solvents and biomolecules but, as far as we are aware, not yet used for temperature sensing. Herein we report two luminescent uranyl phosphonates based on 2-(phosphonomethyl)benzoic acid (2-pmbH3), namely (UO2)(2-pmbH2)2 (1) and (H3O)[(UO2)2(2-pmb)(2-pmbH)] (2). The former has a supramolecular layer structure, composed of chains of corner-sharing {UO6} octahedra and {PO3C} tetrahedra which are connected by hydrogen bonds between phosphonate and carboxylic groups. Compound 2 possesses a unique 2D anionic framework structure, where the inorganic uranyl phosphonate chains made up of {UO7} and {PO3C} polyhedra are cross-linked by 2-pmb3- ligands. The carboxylic groups of 2-pmbH2- ligands are pendant on the two sides of the layers and form hydrogen bonds between the layers. Both compounds can be exfoliated in acetone via a top-down freeze-thaw method, resulting in nanosheets of two-layer thickness. Interestingly, the photoluminescence (PL) of 1 and 2 is highly temperature sensitive. Variable temperature PL studies revealed that compounds 1 and 2 can be used as thermometers in the temperature ranges 120-300 K and 100-280 K, respectively. By doping the nanosheets into polymer matrix, 1-ns@PMMA and 2-ns@PMMA were prepared. The PL intensity of 1-ns@PMMA is insensitive to temperature, unlike that of the bulk sample. While 2-ns@PMMA exhibits similar temperature-dependent luminescence behaviour to its bulk counterpart, thereby enabling its potential application as a thermometer in the temperature range 100-280 K.

RESUMEN

Nanotubular materials have garnered considerable attention since the discovery of carbon nanotubes. Although the layer-to-tube rolling up mechanism has been well recognized in explaining the formation of many inorganic nanotubes, it has not been generally applied to coordination polymers (CPs). To uncover the key factors that determine the rolling-up of layered CPs, we have chosen the Co/R-, S-Xpemp [Xpemp = (4-X-1-phenylethylamino)methylphosphonic acid, X = H, F, Cl, Br] systems and study how the weak interactions influence the formation of layered or tubular structures. Four pairs of homochiral isostructural compounds R-, S-Co(Xpemp)(H2O)2 [X = H (1H), F (2F), Cl (3Cl), Br (4Br)] were obtained with tubular structures. The inclusion of 3,3'-azobipyridine (ABP) guest molecules led to compounds R-, S-[Co(Xpemp)(H2O)2]4·ABP·H2O with layered structures when X was Cl (5Cl) and Br (6Br), but tubular compounds 1H and 2F when X was H and F. Layered structures were also obtained for racemic compounds meso-Co(Xpemp)(H2O)2 [X = F (7F), Cl (8Cl), Br (9Br)] using racemic XpempH2 as the reaction precursor, but not when X = H. A detailed study on R-6Br revealed that layer-to-tube transformation occurred upon removal of ABP under hydrothermal conditions, forming R-4Br with a tubular structure. Similar layer-to-tube conversion did not occur in organic solvents. The results demonstrate that weak interlayer interactions are a prerequisite but not sufficient for the rolling-up of the layers. In the present cases, water also provides a driving force in the layer-to-tube transformation. The experimental results were rationalized by theoretical calculations.

RESUMEN

Chiral transcription from the molecular level to the macroscopic level by self-organization has been a topic of considerable interest for mimicking biological systems. Homochiral coordination polymers (CPs) are intriguing systems that can be applied in the construction of artificial helical architectures, but they have scarcely been explored to date. Herein, we propose a new strategy for the generation of superhelices of 1D CPs by introducing flexible cyclohexyl groups on the side chains to simultaneously induce interchain van der Waals interactions and chain misalignment due to conformer interconversion. Superhelices of S- or R-Tb(cyampH)3·3H2O (S-1H, R-1H) [cyampH2 = S- or R-(1-cyclohexylethyl)aminomethylphosphonic acid] were obtained successfully, the formation of which was found to follow a new type of "chain-twist-growth" mechanism that had not been described previously. The design strategy used in this work may open a new and general route to the hierarchical assembly and synthesis of helical CP materials.

RESUMEN

Inspired by the exciting physical/chemical properties in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) of the redox-active tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) ligands, nickel bis(dithiolene-dibenzoic acid), [Ni(C2S2(C6H4COOH)2)2], has been designed and developed as an inorganic analogue of the corresponding TTF-type donors (such as tetrathiafulvalene-tetrabenzoate, TTFTB), where a metal site (Ni) replaces the central C═C bond. In this work, [Ni(C2S2(C6H4COOH)2)2] and In3+ have been successfully assembled into a three-dimensional MOF, (Me2NH2+){InIII-[Ni(C2S2(C6H4COO)2)2]}·3DMF·1.5H2O (1, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), with satisfying chemical and thermal stabilities. With the combination of reversible redox activity and unsaturated metal sites originated from [Ni(C2S2(C6H4COOH)2)2], 1 showed a significantly enhanced performance in electrocatalytic CO2 reduction compared with the isomorphic MOF, (Me2NH2+)[InIII-(TTFTB)]·0.7C2H5OH·DMF (2, with TTFTB ligand). More importantly, by mimicking the active [NiS4] sites of formate dehydrogenase and CO-dehydrogenase, a prominently higher conversion rate and Faradaic efficiency (FE), with FEHCOO- increasing from 54.7% to 89.6% (at -1.3 V vs RHE, jHCOO- = 36.0 mA cm-2), were achieved in 1. Mechanistic investigations further confirm that [NiS4] can serve as a CO2 binding site and efficient catalytic center. This unprecedented effect of redox-active nickel dithiolene-based MOF catalysts on the performance of electroreduction of CO2 provides an important strategy for designing stable and efficient crystalline enzyme-mimicking catalysts for the conversion of CO2 into high-value chemical stocks.
